Men's Indoor Team miss out on National League by 1 goal!

The lads worked so hard over the last few weeks and came so close to being promoted to Div 1 indoor but it just wasn’t to be their year.  It’s a tough tournament, with all of the teams good enough to qualify for Div 1 in the following year, but only the top two go up. Round robin tournaments are always unpredictable as all teams are good enough to beat each other.

First game was against a well drilled Doncaster team and the Oxted boys pushed tirelessly to eventually come out 8-7 winners. Second game on Saturday was Old Georgians, where the score of a 10-4 loss flatters OG’s somewhat as Oxted had many chances through the game. A positive vibe going into Sunday and the hockey that Oxted produced against Olton & West Warwick’s and Bedford later in the day was fantastic. Winning 12-5 and 14-2 respectively.

A spanner then came  in Oxted plans as Doncaster beat Old Georgians which meant that Oxted had to beat West Herts to qualify. 5-1 up in the first quarter, but West Herts regrouped and stopped Oxted scoring any more goals in quarter 2 and 3 but scoring their own. Going into the last quarter at 5-5 Oxted pushed for the required win and managing to take the lead early but West Herts instantly equalised and then took the lead! With three shots hitting the post and flicks going marginally wide the final whistle blew and West Herts winning 7-6 – confining Oxted to another year in Div 2.
